Durga Puja organized for the first time after the Battle of Plassey

    One story is that Durga Puja was organized in West Bengal after the Battle of Plassey of 1757. It is said that Durga Puja was organized for the first time to thank God on the victory of the British in the Battle of Plassey. Nawab Siraj-ud-daula, the ruler of Bengal was defeated in the Battle of Plassey.
     In Bengal, 22 miles south of Murshidabad, there is a place called Plassey along the Ganges. Here, on 23 June 1757, there was a war between the Nawab's army and the British. The army of the British East India Company fought the battle under the leadership of Robert Clive and defeated Nawab Siraj-ud-daula. However, before the war, Robert Clive had taken some of the Nawab's prominent courtiers and wealthy Seths of the city through a conspiracy.

Gorgeous statues were built. Dancers were called from Verma and Sri Lanka. Robert Clive enjoyed the ceremony by sitting on the elephant. People came from far and wide to Kolkata to see this event.     There are many other stories about organizing Durga Puja for the first time. It is said that for the first time in the ninth century, a young man from Bengal started it. There is also a mention of a scholar named Raghunandan Bhattacharya from Bengal conducting Durga Puja for the first time. According to another story, for the first time in Bengal, Durga Puja was conducted by Narayana, a zamindar of Tahirpur under the direction of a Pandit named Kullak Bhatt. The ceremony was completely family. It is said that Pal and Senvans in Bengal greatly encouraged Durga Puja. 
    It is said that after 1757, in 1790, kings, feudatories and zamindars organized public Durga Puja for the first time in Gupti Padha of Nadia district of Bengal. After this, Durga Puja also became popular in normal life and it became a tradition to celebrate it in a grand way.
